Emergencies
EMERGENCY IN BELGIUM -> CALL 101
General
Anyone facing an emergency in Europe should call the toll-free international emergency number 112.
You will then automatically be directed to the emergency services center.
They can send the police, a medical team or the fire department to the scene.
In Belgium, if you call the emergency number 112 for the police, you will be redirected to the emergency number 101.
This can waste valuable time. So in your own country, for urgent police assistance, call emergency number 101 directly.

ICE
In the event of an accident or emergency, the emergency services often want to notify your friends or family.
That's why a lot of people used to enter a contact in their phone called "ICE" or "In Case of Emergency.
Nowadays, however, most phones are locked with a code or fingerprint, and thus emergency services cannot unlock them.
Fortunately, for iPhone and Android users, there is a solution:
- iPhone (from iPhone 4S and iOS 8)
Go to the "health" app and select your "Medical ID" at the bottom right.
In that screen, you can add a contact for emergencies.
That information will be accessible on a locked screen though via the 'emergency' button.
- Android:
Go to 'contacts' - 'groups' and then click 'ICE emergency contact'.
Select a contact and save the changes.
On a locked screen, the 'ICE' contact will now be available via the 'emergency' button.
